HOW DO I VOLUNTEER?

-You must be at least 16 years of age or older.
-You must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
-You must be available for an interview as well as any orientation meetings that follow your acceptance as a volunteer.
-You must be available to work a shift each day of the show.

If any out of town requests to volunteer are received, the Northern Ontario Expo is not responsible for travel OR accommodations. 

THE NORTHERN ONTARIO EXPO VOLUNTEER TEAM IS:

-Expected to act appropriately as they are representatives of the Northern Ontario Expo.
-Expected to maintain confidentiality with any information received at the Northern Ontario Expo.
-Not permitted to make any statements or actions that would affect the convention, including statements to the public and/or press.
-Expected to perform their requested duties to the best of their abilities. If for any reason volunteers are unable to do what is asked of them, please inform the Supervisor so that other arrangements can be made.

 HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE TO GIVE?

-A minimum of 4-5 hours each day is requested.
-Volunteers are free to participate in the activities of the convention before & after their scheduled duties.

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

-Volunteers are asked to dress casually and appropriately. No ripped jeans, short shorts or skirts, offensive shirts, etc.
-To be courteous to co-workers and patrons, volunteers will practice clean personal hygiene. Please avoid using excessive amounts of perfumes, colognes and/or hairsprays that may cause a problem for allergy sufferers.
-Volunteers are welcome to come in costume as long as the costumes do not cause any limitations to their abilities to perform their duties.
-The Northern Ontario Expo staff reserves the right to dismiss any Volunteer whom they feel does not adhere to the guidelines set out by the Northern Ontario Expo, and/or who fails to satisfactorily complete their duties.

What is Timmins Comicon/Northern Ontario Expo?


Timmins Comicon/Northern Ontario Expo is a two day comic con style event held annually in Timmins, Ontario. It's a weekend of fun and excitement with features including celebrity meet and greets, panels, workshops, cosplay, artists, vendors and more!

Advanced tickets are not available this year, day admission fees are as follows:

0 yr - 5 years of age - Free admission

6 yr - 12 years of age - $5.00/day

13 + years of age - $10.00/day

Any child using a Child Pass and children 5 and under require adult accompaniment.

Programming

What kind of programming will be happening at Timmins Comicon 2018?

We’ve got something for everyone! There will be discussion panels, Q&A panels with guests, workshops or seminars on a number of topics, costume contest and so much more!  (schedule subject to change without prior notice)

Autographs and Photo Ops

How many people can be in a photo op?
 

It’s up to the guest’s discretion. We suggest a maximum of 2 people to ensure photo quality won’t be affected.

What will guests sign? 

It’s up to the guest’s discretion. Collectible cards, posters, headshots, books, toys, props haven’t posed a problem in the past.

Where can I park?

Parking is available at the arena. There is no charge for parking.

General Stuff

Can I bring a camera and take pictures? 

You may bring a camera, however please note that pictures will not be allowed when you’re standing in line to get a photograph/autograph. Pictures are allowed during stage performances.

How does meeting guests work? 

If you are getting a photo/autograph with a guest, you can say a few words, but remember there is limited time scheduled for these events and lines are sometimes quite long. Please be considerate of those waiting for their turn. 

Am I allowed to bring my own bags?

Sure can!

Am I allowed to bring my own water?

Of course!

There is a food stand within the arena.

Which charities do you support?
 

We have contributed items and funds to various local groups such as Canadian Metal Health.  The Northern Ontario Expo also contributes to bursaries for O'Gorman High School and monetary donations to local churches.

Which events do you attend?

We have attended The Great Canadian Kayak Challenge, Welcome to Timmins Night, 2017 Stars and Thunder and host our own events as well.

Policies

Alcohol


This is an all ages family event; no alcohol will be permitted on site. If you are suspected of drinking, you will be asked to leave the convention. 

Badges/Wristbands

Must be displayed at all times, non-transferrable and no refunds if lost. 

Costumes


Costumes deemed to be offensive may result in expulsion from the convention. 

Convention Centre Guidelines

Please treat Northern Ontario Expo staff, volunteers and McIntyre Arena staff with courtesy and respect.

Photography of Attendees

Please remember to be courteous and ask permission before taking photos with, or of other people. It is inappropriate to take high or low angle shots, place your hands on a person or request sexual poses without prior consent. Please do not request personal information from individuals with whom you are unfamiliar.

Ticket returns/Refund policy

Northern Ontario Expo has no responsibility for secondary market transactions.There will be no refunds on lost/stolen tickets or wristbands or if you are removed from the convention by staff or security. 

Guest appearances are subject to change or cancellation due to professional obligations. Please check the Northern Ontario Expo website for the most current listing prior to the convention. Refunds cannot be issued in the event of a guest cancellation. 

Cosplay Weapon Policies 

Prop weapons are permitted, but must be inspected by event staff. All actual weapons and items that could be considered dangerous are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, knives, tazers, pepper spray, BB guns, cap guns, airsoft weapons, paintball guns, water guns, martial arts weaponry, including wooden practice weapons, ect.They will be confiscated as well as reported to local authorities. Participants must demonstrate that they are able to carry their prop weapons respectfully and responsibly, otherwise it will be confiscated by N.O.E. staff.

Any items purchased at the convention, once removed from their packaging, are regarded the same as any prop weapon brought into the convention and must comply with these rules. If your costume prop takes up a significant amount of space—enough to obstruct hallways or walking areas—or is so cumbersome so as to impede your movement, we recommend you only have it for the costume contest.

Anti-Harassment & Anti-Bullying Policy

Northern Ontario Expo is dedicated to providing a harassment-free (including bullying-free) convention experience for everyone regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We will not tolerate harassment or bullying of convention participants (including attendees, press, exhibitors, volunteers, staff, etc.) in any form. Anyone violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the convention, without a refund, at the discretion of the convention organizers. Exhibitors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments, (related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, etc.) sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of convention staff immediately. Convention staff can be identified by their volunteer shirts and special badges.

Convention staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the convention. We value your attendance.
